IFC’s Pamela recently announced that she would be starting treatment with Genitrix in Prague. We are pleased to follow her journey with the help from Dr. Vladimira Bernatkova, Head Physician and owner of the Genitrix and Blanka Konarkova, Senior Patient Liaison Manager at the clinic.
The Czech Republic is becoming a popular destination for patients like Pamela and here we discover why.
Why Consider the Czech Republic?
The Czech Republic, also called Czechia, is located in Central Europe, bordered by Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. The country is a very popular tourist destination, visited by over 40 million every year. Czech is the official language of the country but English and German are widely spoken and the currency used is the Czech Koruna or Czech Crown.
Aside from being a popular tourist destination the country has developed a reputation as being a centre of excellence for health tourism and in particular for assisted reproduction treatments. The first IVF baby was born in the country in 1982 and there are now around 50 clinics offering over 30,000 treatment cycles per year.
Fertility clinics in the country have gained a reputation for providing good quality, regulated treatments, higher than average success rates, competitive prices and state of the art facilities. In addition to costs and success rates the ease of communication is another positive for IVF treatment in Czech Republic. In every clinic you will find doctors and staff who are multilingual especially German and English.
Are fertility clinics regulated in the Czech Republic?
Clinics in the Czech Republic receive certification from the country’s Ministry of Health and the leading clinics have quality management systems in place. They are independently inspected by the National Registry of Assisted Reproduction at least every two years and are required to submit an annual return to the Registry outlining the work undertaken, including success rates.
The regulation brings IVF treatment in Czech Republic and the clinics in line with that of other European countries and provides additional safeguards for patients seeking reassurances about quality and patient support.
Who can access fertility treatments in the Czech Republic?
Treatments are offered to women up to the age of 48 and 364 days and a limited amount of information is available about donors. Donor treatment which is therefore offered to patients is regarded as anonymous which means that the donor will never be known to the recipient and vice versa. Treatments involving donor eggs are not available for single women or same sex couples. Potential sperm and egg donors are tested and assessed to ensure they are genetically, physically and psychologically fit to act as a donor. There are no waiting lists for donor treatments and availability in terms of ethnicity is generally good across the different treatment providers.
Why Pam chose Genitrix
Pam says,
‘I have now had experience of a number of clinics in Europe and one of the most important things for me is communication. It is vitally important to have a good point of contact. All IVF clinics have IVF coordinators but they vary in terms of things like response times. I chose Genitrix and Blanks to help me as their attention to personal care and support is excellent. To date, the whole experience has been faultless and my stress levels have been reduced considerably! I would advise anyone who is interested in travelling for treatment to speak to Genitrix!’
We will be following Pam’s treatment over the next few months – watch this space!
